Band Room
The Campbell High School Department of Bands offers three concert bands throughout the school year. Per-cussion students are divided into two separate per-cussion classes to allow for specialized instruction. The concert band and percussion program consists of four years of study. Wind students enter the program in the Freshman Band where performance fundamen-tals and instrumental techniques are stressed during their first year of study. After Freshman Band, stu-dents have the opportunity to audition for either the Concert Band or the Symphonic Band (top group). As the students progress through he curriculum, more advanced skills and concepts are taught. The Campbell High School concert bands consistently obtain superior performance level and evaluation.
The Campbell High School Marching Spartan Band has just completed its season for their 2011 production of Journey to Jupiter. The marching band has made some amazing strides this year and every member of the Spartan Band should be proud of the amazing work put into the 2011 season. We move forward to the 2012 season with much anticipation and planning for next years show!

The Campbell High School Color Guard program under the direction of Brian Richardson, assisted by Jessica Tinney, will debut the schools first winter guard program during the 2012 winter. The winter guard program is an opportunity for the color guard members to develop their performance skills during the off-season. Students not currently in the marching band will have an opportunity to audition and join the winter guard during its Inaugural year.
Campbell High Schools chamber ensemble program includes instrument choirs and mixed ensembles. We are proud to offer our students the opportunity to participate in brass, woodwind, and percussion ensembles. We believe strongly that the participation in small ensemble playing yields big rewards in other ensembles due in part to the increased level of accountability placed upon each player and that chamber music can be a useful medium for teaching personal responsibility and leadership. Generally, in the chamber ensemble there is no more than one player to a part and as a result, each players responsibility to his/her ensemble is heightened.

The Campbell High School Department of Bands needs the support of the community and local businesses to build a successful program on and off the field.
Our enthusiastic students strive for excellence, are hardworking, and dedicated to success. Your support enables the Campbell Spartans Band Boosters (CSBB) to assist the school in providing a top notch musical education to the students while building a world-class performance program. Your donation will help us provide uniforms, equipment, instruments, and instruction, as well as the ability to perform half-time shows at home and away games and participate in several state competitions throughout the fall.
In exchange for your generous donation, your business will receive exposure to students and teachers, their families, and alumni, as well as visitors to Campbell High School football games, band competitions, and the Smyrna community.

Zac Cogdill is the proud Director of Bands at Campbell High School. He received his bachelor of Music Education Degree from the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, IN. and his Master’s Degree in Conducting from The American Band College at Southern Oregon University.
Mr. Cogdill completed his student teaching assignment at Concord High School and Concord Middle School in Elkhart, IN., a band program later documented in the book, American Band. During his early teaching career in New Jersey, Mr. Cogdill led several bands to local and regional championships. Prior to Campbell High School, Mr. Cogdill taught at South Cobb High School from 2005-2011 where he built the marching band from 34 members to over 80 members and the concert program from 60 members and one ensemble to over 100 members and two ensembles. In addition, he began a percussion ensemble that grew to 25 members and performed at concerts and community events.
The South Cobb Blue Eagle Marching Band was selected as the Georgia Representative in the 2009 Presidential Inauguration for President Barack Obama. Surrounding the band’s crowning achievement, they were featured in the New York Times, People magazine, and on several CNN programs.
As a cast member in the 1988 Star of Indiana’s Brass Theater, Mr. Cogdill toured throughout the Mid-West with extensive performances at the Grand Palace in Branson, MO. In 2001, Mr. Cogdill earned a role in the touring cast of the Tony Award winning Broadway show, Blast!, a professional instrumental movement theater-based production. As a cast member in Blast!, Mr. Cogdill performed four shows daily at the American Gardens Theater at Epcot in the Walt Disney World Resort. Mr. Cogdill is a resident of Mableton, Georgia.
Christine Davidson, Director of Bands at Floyd Middle School, is originally from Warren, Michigan. Ms. Davidson holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Eastern Michigan University and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Music Education at the University of Georgia. Ms. Davidson has experience working with bands of all types and sizes, including the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Marching Band from Canton, Michigan, the Kennesaw Mountain H.S. Marching Band, and the South Cobb H.S. Blue Eagle Marching Band. She is excited to join the Campbell H.S. Marching Spartan Staff in 2011.
Steven Walker graduated most recently from Georgia State University (2011) with a Masters in Jazz Studies from the studio of Justin Varnes, and has previously earned Bachelors degrees in Music Performance (2008) and Music Education (2001) from Kennesaw State University and the studio of John Lawless.
As a performer, Mr. Walker has been fortunate to play in a wide variety of professional ensembles from jazz/dance/variety bands, to orchestra and wind ensemble, to avant-garde performance art, to percussion ensembles. He feels as though it is this variety of performance experience that allows him to effectively communicate with his students on so many levels. He is able to relate jazz/pop performance experiences to orchestral playing experiences and percussion ensemble playing to avant-garde performance. It is this cross-referencing of styles that has made him an in-demand player in Atlanta and given him the ability to work consistently.
Prior to accepting his appointment with Campbell High School, Mr. Walker maintained a private teaching studio where he taught an average of 30 students weekly. In a time when many lesson studios suffered losses due to the failing economy, his studio continued to thrive due to his ability to connect with, and motivate his students. Moreover, the personal relationship that he develops with his students as a mentor has enabled him to grow and maintain a full roster of students. Mr. Walkers students have successfully auditioned and placed in All-State and Honor bands as well as being accepted to some of the nations finest university music programs.
Additionally, Mr. Walkers interest in the marching arts activities (DCI & WGI) has lead him to instruct many high school percussion sections across the Southeast. Most notably, he worked under directors Dan and Freddy Martin at Sprayberry High School during the last five years before Dans retirement. In those years, he recovered a struggling percussion section and brought them 5 consecutive championship seasons. He also worked with Sprayberrys concert percussion section and assisted in the coaching of the rhythm section in the Jazz band. During his tenure there, no band received less than a superior rating. Since leaving Sprayberry High School, he has remained active in marching percussion instruction as a clinician and technical expert at band camps and summer leadership programs as well as a concert percussion and jazz rhythm section coach.
